Here’s a little bit of something on my desk today.  I found the pattern here.

I vaguely remember doing chicken scratch when I was in 6th grade.  We actually still had a home-ec class back in 1992.  I hated it.  If only my teacher could see me now…

So I’ve been dying to knit this sweater.  It’s a classic design for babies that has been all grown up by Flint Knits.  And I love her for it.  Anyway, I’m torn a bit about choosing a yarn.  I used to buy cheap yarn all the time but have since realized that if  I’m going to pour hours and hours into a project, I want to love it and be able to use it!

So these are my top choices (Cascade 220 at Purl).  Cooler shades are apparently catching my eye.  I’m leaning towards that vibrant green, but I wonder if it’s just because I’ve seen the sweater in that color.  Or because I’m a redhead.

What color do you think would make a nice addition to a fall/winter wardrobe?

I was leaning toward the green BEFORE I looked at the sweater (which is really cute, btw). I am also partial to grey in my cardigans, though, so that would be my 2nd choice.

I’ve been eyeing the sweater for about a week now and I seriously think I might have to stretch my skills and try to make it. I have to agree, I just love the look in green. I wonder if I’m baised, but it’s just SO pretty! Looking forward to seeing what you choose!

The green would look great with your skin tone/hair/eyes. I’m so jealous of your skills.

The green is beautiful and would look great on you but I would make the bottom left one for myself - if I were even remotely skilled at doing something like that. You should make the green.

Oooo, I like the green, very much. Lovely chicken scratch. Very talented!

The sweater is so cute, and I think (no, I know) you would look great in the green. (and you should make a jr. version for Emily).

As for the chicken scratch, I have an unfinished project or two (one in dark green, one in pale blue). They are squares to put on a table but not to completely cover said table. Let me know if you are interested. It will be a cold day in…ah…well, in Virginia when I have time to work on them.

I’m with everyone on the green.

Wow. So we all agree! Green it is. :)

I had never even heard of chicken scratch until a month ago - it’s lovely.

Thank you for leaving such a sweet comment about my tutorial. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s different versions.

And, um, I think the green, too… :)

Funny– I’m just doing my gauge swatch for this same sweater :-) I’m using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Kettle Dyed in Bordeaux. The Spruce color in this same yarn line might look good on you: It’s a dusty teal.

  11. Rebekah Says:

definitely the green! I’d love to make that sweater in a green for myself too.

I’m loving the chicken scratch- it’s beautiful. As for the colour I would go for whatever goes most with your existing wardrobe or whichever suits you best.
