It is particularly difficult to get a clear picture of an excited toddler in her new pajamas.

Sometimes my crafty projects are born out of necessity. Emily needs pajamas, so I attempted to make her some. This morning, I traced a pair of pants directly onto flannel fabric and then added a 1/2 inch seam allowance all the way around. I then sewed the seams in this order:

  1. side seams and inseams
  2. crotch (which got an extra topstitch)
  3. waistband
  4. hem

Simple…but they’re problematic. I should have made the waistline higher, for starters. They’re also not snug enough in the waist. I think I’ll add some elastic or put in a drawstring, although I’m afraid that a drawstring won’t stay tied with this active gal. :)

You could sew another strip along the top of your existing top, to make them higher, and make it into a casing for elastic. I agree, drawstrings aren’t the best for toddler. Lovely photo, by the way!

Did the crown come with the pants? :)

No, but it does match pretty well, don’t you think?

Hashi, I read your comment a little late… I had just sewn in elastic when I saw your suggestion. Alas, I think this will work! I’ll find out after naptime.

I’m happy to hear someone else makes their patterns that way. That’s how I create most of my clothes (and then cross my fingers the whole time that it’s gonna turn out).
Elastic I’m sure would do the trick. The waistband looks wide enough for it. Cute cute though. And I love the crown.

I love the crown, pants and pillows. And the little one is adorable too. Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog back. And (if you have time) I would love to know what pattern you used (if you used one) for the owl pillow. Thanks.
