Yep.  I never knew what that was.  I took pictures while using the “Aperture Priority” setting on my camera, but I didn’t know what the heck was changing.  Until.  Until the Pioneer Woman who insisted that with enough brain-washing, all of us could get it.  Really!

Check out all of her excellent photography lessons.  I like her.

I took this picture today on the manual setting and tinkered with the aperture and shutter speed.  As I was taking it, the sun was so bright that I couldn’t tell those buds were pink.

Okay, and I decided to share this with you too.  I love it, but I would.  I fixed the exposure and used the cross-process filter in Picnik.  Now that’s more like it. :)

I’m finding if I am able to attach a concept to the function, I am able to get it better. Rather than trying to figure out that this setting is for this or this setting is for that, I just think in terms of aperture means how much light gets in. If I want overexposed, open it up more. If I have little light, open it up more. If it’s too bright, choose a smaller setting. SO much easier for my little confused brain! lol

Beautiful. I’m so glad you’re learning new things about your camera b/c then I can learn cool tricks through you! I actually sorta remember what aperture and F-stops are…..but…..uh, that’s where it ends. Film class 200 in my college days. So thank you for posting great info! And I’m going to check out that site you posted too.
    Cool picture also :)

Love all of PW’s photo tricks and tips. Have you checked out her actions? You must. They’re addictive. Have fun with the camera! I’ve been trying to learn my husband’s camera(which I’m starting to call “our camera”) more. I used to use aperture mode alot, without really understanding what I was doing, but I’ve found lately that I can do much more fine tuning using manual mode. It’s still all really confusing to me, though! Glad your having fun with yours. Your pics are always great!
