I got Tracy’s fabric in the mail yesterday, and since I’ve been feeling so inspired, I immediately got to work on her Twelve Square block. I really love all the fabrics she sent and the idea of adding more elements of texture.
Although, I didn’t really add much texture.
Perhaps you can help me with this. The octagon on the right was going to be a tree. But when I started piecing it together, it didn’t look right. But it still doesn’t look right. What should I do? Embroider a tree-trunk? Leave it alone? Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I think embroidering a tree would be a great idea.

I like it. It has a charming topiary “feel” to me; so, yes, I think a tree trunk would be nice. Perhaps some grass too? Maybe a couple of button “flowers”.

I like the tree trunk idea, too!

Loving the way it’s coming along. I think an embroidered tree trunk would be great!

I agree with the tree idea… but maybe applique the trunk and embroider some details: tree bark, add french knots/stitch around some of the elements in that medallion. Then I might add some embroidery on the house to tie it together.
It’s very cute, though! I can’t wait to see what you decide on!

with or without a tree trunk, this block is oh, so very good! (as is, the octagon looks like a beautiful, flowery sun to me!)
