My favorite addition to my wardrobe right now is this black & white seersucker shirt that I made over the weekend . It’s McCall’s M5388. This pattern really is great - easy to follow with a nice end-product. I added top-stitching to the bottom of the yoke (rather than slip-stitching the facing by hand. I’m lazy like that.) I also made the sleeves longer and didn’t use elastic on them. I sort of regretted this decision when I realized how poofy and wide they are. I almost looked like I had some weird 80s thing going on. But then I rolled the sleeves up, and I kinda like ‘em. I guess if they really get on my nerves, I can always add elastic or a button or shorten them…
So there ya go. My new favorite thing is a stripedy shirt. :)

That is the pattern I have been looking for! I have a pretty one in a cotton lawn that I wear constantly, and it’s very close to this top. Thanks for the tip. (And the pattern review. I like your mods.) I think the one I have has elastic in the sleeves, but they are more of a cap sleeve, rather than a total poof… the seersucker is perfect for this.

Loving your sewing creations lately, Kristena! This, too, is my favorite. It looks nice! I think topstitching the yoke was a good decision - makes it look more “crisp” (yet still flowy)!

Adorable! I love the fabric you chose and it just looks so comfy (and stylish at the same time).
And I’m with you….I’m all about top-stitching (esp on the hem. Who wants to sew by hand?)

Hi - I just found your blog through my fabric coop b/c the moderator linked to you for top ideas. I love your blog and all your spring tops! I’m hosting a Spring Top Sewalong Showcase over at my blog towards the end of April so you should submit yours if you have the time. I totally love McCall’s 5388 too and have used it for more than one shirt and modifications etc!!! I also see you were inspired by the Buttercup Bag pattern; glad it came in useful for you in some way. (:
