My friend Cheryl is very much expecting her first baby - Daisy. Naturally, I had to make her something with a daisy on it, right?
How about a teeny-tiny onesie with applique?

Cheryl dances, so Baby Daisy needs ballet slippers too.

And just so she has something practical (and something that will outlast that teensy newborn phase), I made a set of denim bibs.

I can’t wait to meet you, sweet Baby Daisy!

Yesterday morning, I happened to see Jen of The Fabled Needle asking for pattern testers just in time to join in. (Yay for Google Reader!) By 1 AM (today), I had a fresh new bag and feedback for Ms. Jen.

It’s a super-cute bag, and I loved the fabrics she used for hers. So I went with an equally easy-on-the-eyes blue-gray palette.
One of my favorite things about it is that it’s totally reversible!

How adorable is that?

Thanks, Jen!
The Wendy Tote pattern should be available in the next 1-2 weeks in Jen’s shop, love, Liette.

They’re called Salt Water Sandals, and they’re awesome. You may have had them as a child. Comfortable, leather, water-resistant, available in a multitude of colors, and you can find them used (and cheap!) on eBay. I got these for $10. When they arrived, I immediately put them on and took pictures. That’s how happy I was. :)
See more on Flickr.

And I’m trying to get back in the swing of things. I have lots to share, but not many pictures yet.
So here’s what I took for the road:

My Grama Ginny sent me this little cross-stitch project around Christmas, and I’ve been slowly making my way through it… typically while traveling. It has visited at least 8 states now. :)
Do you have a favorite take-along project?
Here are a couple shots from our boat ride in Chattanooga:

That’s Jacob with his Bibi (Evan’s mom, Ruth). It was so great to be with family!

And congrats to Jillian for graduating Magna Cum Laude from VT! (That’s her in the orange.)
Love you guys.

Mardel’s little girl is turning 2 soon. She commissioned a couple sundresses from me, giving me freedom to do pretty much whatever. And here’s what I made.

Elena’s a very girly girl and happens to look fab in purple. I hope she likes these!
By the way, I was flabbergasted when I saw this yesterday. Thanks, Craft! And thanks, dear readers, for all your support! What an encouraging day.
We’re going out of town for a week, but I’ll be back soon… :)

Whew, it was great being spoiled for a day! Church, lunch at Jason’s Deli, thrifting alone, lasagna & carrot cake, and a book & card… My family rocks.

Emily chose the card; Evan chose the book. And Emily signed the card with her signature “happy faces.” Do you see them?
While at the thrift store, I found this amazing dress for $8.98. That seemed a little steep. I finally decided (after consulting Evan) to take the plunge. But then the kind cashier at the shop only charged me $5! So that was a nice Mother’s Day gift too. :)

It looks a little maternity, but I might wear it to the VT graduation on Saturday anyway.
Later in the evening, I was relieved of all duties so I could sew.
I never blogged about this, but you may have seen this image in my Flickr photostream:

Note the Orla Kiely dishtowel from Target. First time I sprayed chocolate cake batter on it, I knew this wasn’t going to work.
So after much deliberation, this is what I came up with.

Yep. You’ve seen them all over blogland (because they’re awesome!), and now you’ve seen one here. A dishtowel purse. (Very Sound of Music, don’t you think?) I was inspired by this dress designed by Orla, which felt appropriate. :)
So I’d say Mother’s Day was better than I could have hoped. Lots of mommy-spoiling action from the awesomest people I know.
Thank you, sweet family!

Yesterday I mentioned that my friend Mardel brought me doilies on Wednesday. A week before that, she brought buttons. And in the past, Mardel has brought me a colorful thrifted sheet, pretty upholstery fabric, a petite Wedgwood dish…
She’s the Queen of Estate Sales.
And she is an Amazing Friend. Always thinking about others. She even listened to me carry on about the various incidents of the day for about 45 minutes.
Thank you, Mardel! Love ya.

But maybe not as much as this guy does. ;)
Happy Friday!

I’m bringing y’all my Flickr favorites on a Thursday (instead of the wonderfully alliterated Friday) because, frankly, I had a bad day yesterday. I have nothing to share except crayoned sofas, pooped-in cribs, and failed T-shirt refashions.
But looking at these images this morning helped me feel inspired again, and I hope they inspire you too!

By the way, does anyone know if ballpoint needles wear out particularly fast? Or is there another reason why the tension would be way off when I try to sew knit T-shirt material? I wish I had a Wendy Mullin or an Amy Karol here to guide me last night.
EDIT: Oh, and I did want to tell you that I made a little more progress on the scrappy log cabin quilt. Thank you for your ideas on the border color - great suggestions! I’m leaning towards light gray or white. I have 3 more blocks to make, so we’ll see!
ANOTHER EDIT: Also, my sweet husband brought home pizza last night, which deserves mentioning. It really made everything better.
AND ANOTHER EDIT: How could I forget to mention that my sweet & thoughtful friend Mardel brought me some thrifted doilies yesterday? Gah, my day really wasn’t that bad at all. I’ll have to photograph them and share. :)
The sun is shining today.
