I painted this on Saturday, using another design from Lena Corwin’s Printing by Hand as a guide.  I get pretty overwhelmed when I think of all the possibilities for a blank canvas.  So that’s why I decided not to do something completely original.  I just wanted to find something I liked and go for it.  Now I have the urge to paint more…

Something else we’re considering for this space (and on the other side of the TV) is a poster.

Evan and I both love classic & artistic movie posters.  Here’s one of his favorites:

I lean towards this sort of thing:

I loved all your room suggestions.  Now I wonder…

Do you have a favorite poster?  Movies, books, vintage ads, magazine covers  or otherwise… I’d love to hear!

    Lovely painting! Very inspiring.

I am a huge alfred hitchcock fan so I like your hubby’s choice. (Vertigo is one of my fave AH movies.) I also like really simple prints for posters, like the things they do over at http://www.thesmallstakes.com
We own two posters by them, but they’re both from concerts we’ve been to. Still I love his work.

Um…posters. I’m super in to these right now:

I don’t think they have anything for Tulsa. But maybe one day! I’m going to get the Los Angeles one in orange.
The living room’s coming along nicely!

    it’s BIG. like 4.5′ tall!

Its framed in our movie theater, since we were going for an art deco period there…

I have Singing In The Rain original movie poster framed in my bedroom. It’s an all-time favorite movie.

Too funny! My boyfriend and I were going to do the same thing and I want for “It’s a Wonderful Life”. I love that movie and I love that the poster isn’t all Christmas-y so I won’t mind having it up year round.

I love the vintage travel posters and also those giant book covers at Barnes & Noble. I’ve always wanted to make one of those.

My goodness! I go away on vacation for a week, and when I come back, you’re entire living room is undergoing renovation! I love all the little touches you’ve added (the pillows, profiles, X-box cover…), but I don’t think I’ll go back and comment on EVERY post. ; ) I think that the Vertigo poster would coordinate really nicely stylistically: the colors, lines, etc. would complement and meld with a lot of what you already have while adding a nice bit of pizazz. But I really like the It’s a wonderful life poster. Something more vintage like that might really help to tie the vintage-y green-gold couch. I don’t know…It’s a tough choice. I have a “big wall” in my living room right now that I’ve been working on filling for a while too, so I’m looking forward to seeing the final product with your “big wall”. I just might take some of your ideas and give them my own new spin…

Hmmm…I really love your painting and I like how it looks with your sillouettes. What if your “TV/media wall” was all movie posters so you could have both of your tastes in movies? I don’t know what your other walls are like but do you have another wall space for your painting and the sillouettes? They would also look good vertically and they would also look good if you added Mom and Dad to the mix. Depends on your other walls. The painting is genius.

your painting is beautiful! It looks great in that spot.

    That Vertigo poster is great!

Kristena, I’m so glad we got to chat last night (and I KNEW your title sounded familiar–yes, I’ve been here before!) Have added you to my feedreader and am eager to catch up.

(I love vintage posters too–have a vintage Chicago travel poster hanging in my hallway.)
