There are five amazing finalists for Spring Top Week over on Rae’s blog. Go vote! The polls are closed tonight at midnight.
I finally got inspired to make a top of my own on Friday night, and here’s what I cranked out:

I made this shirt from pattern A in The Stylish Dress Book. That would have happened more efficiently if I understood Japanese. Alas. When I finally figured out that the back pattern piece was not the front, I was good to go.

The pattern is really quite simple.
And it looks a lot better on me than the original, ill-fitting thrifted sundress ($1!!!), which looked a lot like a maternity dress on me:

Although I still have to be careful how I wear it, or I’m certain I will look pregnant. ;) (Which I’m all for when I actually am pregnant. But I am decidedly not.)

It’s much better tucked-in.

I love the neckline on this and might have to make a dress from the pattern.
Thanks, Rae, for hosting a great week of inspiration! You (& all the super-talented ladies who submitted tops) certainly got me inspired. :)

That’s a lovely top indeed! If you don’t want to tuck it in, you could maybe wear it belted? Anyway, I think it’s very cute!

That top is so cute, Kristena!

Wow, the original dress was cute too! Did you keep the top part intact?

That’s gorgeous - I love it. The binding is lovely. I recently read on Purl a bit about decipering the Japanese and they give a really good way of remembering which symbol means back and which means front. I think it’s here: http://www.purlbee.com/japanese-pattern-drafting-tuto/2008/7/20/japanese-crafting-with-mari-drafting-japanese-sewing-pattern.html

Tuck it in or wear a belt, and you’ll be good to go :)

I like it! I looks delightfully light and springy. The neckline is CUTE! I think a dress with the same neckline would be adorable, and it would be easy too!

Cute top!! I love the fabric! Can’t wait to make our ruffled shirts - I already bought twin clearance shirts at Target! :o)

P.S. I’m thinking a dress version of this pattern with a skinny belt would be aDORable.

La la love it!!! So great. And yes, better tucked in. I’m so thrilled to see so many of you judges making tops too…fantastic. And thanks for helping promote. I know I’m a little late catching up on all this but it’s still appreciated. :)
